Summary
Retribution is a sci-fi multiplayer project written back in 2016. The big idea was to have a regularly advancing plot and bring gameplay changes along with it, something akin to Warframe’s updates but on a smaller, more regular scale.
The players all begin in a moderately sized city in a pretty barren desert when mysterious robots start descending from orbit. The robots slowly move across the landscape looking for rare resource spawns to steal from the players. Killing the robots drops any resource they might be carrying and some scrap to sell for in-game money.
Technology
Built in Unity 5.6, I used the following assets in the project:
- SpatialOS for networking
- Eddie’s Vehicle Pack for the Quad Bike
- SteamVR for VR support
- Unity NavMesh for AI pathing
- Terrain Composer 2 for world gen
The project took about 6 months of weekend work to get to where it is today
The Team
Three of us worked on Retribution. My brother created all the 3D assets, a friend was responsible for all the audio used in the game and I designed then built the game.
