Getting a Little Personal
Born and raised in Glasgow, I have always had an obsession with games. Some games get the mix just right and make you want to play them over and over. That hook got me into Software Engineering at University with the desire to build my own games.
After University I felt too inexperienced to get into the games industry straight away, so took jobs in the services sector to gain that experience. Fast forward to today and with both my personal projects and professional experience I feel confident moving into the industry.
Hobby Projects and Virtual Reality
I dabbled with my own engine in C++ with SDL and some thrown together Python console games in University, but nothing was particularly noteworthy until I bought my HTC Vive in 2016. Trying the Oculus DK1 and DK2 convinced me that VR had legs to stand on and it was going to make it big. Once I had my Vive I was desperate to make games, and over the next few years produced a number of prototypes.
My prototypes varied in success, however lack of experience was the cause of death for all of them. As I gained experience and skills from my day job, my confidence in my games and my ability to deliver increased. Today I now have demonstrable games which I am proud of.
